Welcome to the Alaska Statewide Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan (ASBPP) website!

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) seeks to create a Statewide Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan and associated supporting documents to articulate the long- and medium-range bicycle and pedestrian transportation planning needs of the state. The Master Plan will provide the following:

Why is the plan needed?

The driving force behind the development of the Statewide Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan comes down to five (5) key components:

  1. There is no current plan in place.
  2. Biking in Alaska is becoming more popular.
  3. There is significant unmet need for safe streets.
  4. Tourists that visit Alaska typically do not use a car.
  5. Safety needs to be a priority.

Public Involvement

ASBPP Steering Committee

The ASBPP Steering Committee includes a representative from each of the organizations shown in the graphic below. The purpose of the ASBPP is to provide the Planning Team with guidance on draft documents and plan recommendations.

The ASBPP Steering Committee will meet in Fairbanks on April 18, 2017 and in Juneau January 2018. The purpose of these meeting will be to review work completed to date, develop preliminary goals, objectives, and a vision for the bicycle and pedestrian network in Alaska. Stewart Osgood of DOWL will lead and facilitate each steering committee meeting with support from other team members as needed.
